The Texas Rowing For All Program entered into planning and partnership with Austin Parks & Recreation McBeth Center and Special Olympics Central Texas in late summer of 2009 to expand and build upon the APD’s annual 1/2 day introduction event to paddling held at Camacho Recreation Center,. “Rock the Boat” is a six-week course that provides opportunities to people with intellectual disabilities to experience hands-on introductory experiences to several different paddling sports on Sunday afternoons on beautiful Lady Bird Lake. Participants have opportunities to paddle in a single & double kayaks canoe, row and paddle in team outrigger canoes. Padding is safe and effective tool in developing the skills of teamwork , discipline, wellness, recovery and self-responsibility. Texas Rowing For Al welcomes people of various backgrounds, experiences, ages and athletic abilities.“ Rock the Boat” sessions are held in the Spring and Fall and some sessions are devoted as Special Olympic paddling/rowing team development and participantion.
